Get SHA256SUMS and compare your archive’s SHA-256 before extracting. The verification metadata records the source commit and CI coverage. Checksums detect mismatched downloads; obtain both archive and manifest through the intended project release channel.
On Linux amd64:
curl -fLO https://github.com/softdevstudio/bitspeed/releases/latest/download/bitspeed-inspect-linux-amd64.tar.gz
curl -fLO https://github.com/softdevstudio/bitspeed/releases/latest/download/SHA256SUMS
grep ' bitspeed-inspect-linux-amd64.tar.gz$' SHA256SUMS | sha256sum -c -
tar -xzf bitspeed-inspect-linux-amd64.tar.gz
./bitspeed-inspect --version
On macOS use shasum -a 256 to calculate the archive hash; on Windows use Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256. Compare the entire value with the matching line in SHA256SUMS. Native smoke coverage establishes tested executable behavior, not every operating system or hardware combination.
The versioned release, source and release reference provide provenance and limitations. The Go tool code uses Apache 2.0; applicable Go toolchain notices are included in the archives.
